Account of Hyde's Concert at the Fillmore in SF
Oh. My. Gosh. I can't believe I'm still breathing. That's was the freaking best concert EVER. (I'm not actually listening to Hello, that's just the song that was playing in my head when I woke up this morning.) I'm tired, and out of it, my head's still in the clouds, I've had nothing but Hyde music playing in my head, in the concert, and in the car. Let's get Gackt out here!
PRE-CONCERT
My friend Turbo-san and I rode up to SF, about an hour ride where we're from, grabbed a burrito for dinner, and drove around until we found the end of the line. It wasn't very difficult to find the line because everyone was either Asian, or wearing a lot of black and striped socks, or a Loli. That in itself was pretty cool. I think we got there at about 7:00 so we were only waiting there about an hour, but it was really cold. Turbo and I tried to pass the time by writing Hyde a letter. We didn't know if there was a place to put things like that once we got in, but we wrote him anyway. We also made three line buddies! All on Livejournal and DA, go figure. There was one girl behind us who'd flown all the way from Virginia.
Finally, the line started to move around the corner. My hands were too numb so I made Turbo write the rest of the note, and then we drew random pictures of it. If he got it and no one translates it for him, at least he'll be amused (hopefully). When we got to the door, we were separated into three lines for bag checks and they made me leave my burrito :( I hadn't used printed tickets to get into a concert before so I was a little nervous, but there weren't any problems. There were a bunch of Hyde posters at the entrance that I wondered about, and they ended up being all gone by the end. Why weren't those sold at the store? The five of us went inside and everyone bought a Faith tour t-shirt. We positioned ourselves dead-center in the hall and waited.
...CONCERT?
It didn't start right away. First we had to listen to the opening act. I forget the name of the band, but they weren't bad at all. They were good. It was the most excruciating experience simply because we were waiting for Hyde. (And the singer said "we have a couple more songs" after he had played two, and then he went and played five more. But whatever) He had "HYDE" taped in white on the back of one of his guitars, so whenever he flipped it up everyone would scream. It was around this time that my feet started to hurt, and I decided that wearing Converses had, not for the first time, been a stupid idea. Then the seventh song was over, and they finally left the stage.
-CONCERT!-
All of our eyes were searching the stage, looking for Hyde, waiting, waiting, and then all of a sudden there he was. I can't really describe to you what it's like actually seeing Hyde. As soon as he appeared on stage, everyone in the crowd rushed forward and we got a lot closer to him. He wore what looked like a denim jacket and pants, and a black shirt with some kind of print on it (and his hair was so great!). He played all the songs that were mentioned in othere posts about the Anaheim concert, and I don't remember the order but some of my favorites were:
HIDEAWAY - I fell in love with this song yesterday. It was perfect. I think I liked it more because I was more familiar with it than his Faith songs, and it didn't have quite as heavy a message, but it was easy to sing along with. This was the one where like everyone was jumping up and down and flailing their arms everywhere.
COUNTDOWN - For this song, Hyde goes "Let's count down from 13!" or something, and everyone started counting together. 12, 10, 9, 8... and then he played the song. This has got to be one of my favorite Hyde songs of all time, I'm so glad he played it!
I CAN FEEL - I liked when he sang this song, partly because it gave me a chance to rest a little. We sang it so well, and everyone in the room swayed back and forth. He was really into the song too; he had that look like he was concentrating or meditating on something.
I liked when he got up on the wooden platform thing because everyone would scoot all close together again and we'd get evern closer. We were more toward the back than the front but we could still see him well. He did the tongue thing too, and when he screamed he'd tilt his head back and strum his guitar and he just looked...awesome. The head banging was fabulous. "Are you ready to get crazy with me?" He said that three different times, and he got the same crazed enthusiasm. I was as loud as possible, and I hope he liked his experience in America and saw how much he is loved by his fans here. He said "I'll be back" at the end of the concert so I really really hope he does! He's got such a great voice. The microphone wasn't annoying and the music didn't drown him out.
If anyone (like Turbo) has anything to add, or anybody from the Fillmore has something specific to add, or some description of him from the concert, let me know and I can put it up here because it's a Hyde concert - there needs to be more! I might remember more later, but the important thing was actually seeing Hyde in concert!!! I still haven't calmed down and I hope I never do. My voice is spent and my arms and legs are tired, but who cares?? (He's SO much more amazing live)
Afterword when the crowd was dispersing, we tried to throw our letter onto the stage, but it missed and the staff probably threw it away. Oh well, we tried. Hyde, thank you for coming to America and please come back soon!
